This is a very easy,
simple , tasty recipe for Passover. It
is called Charoset: a mix of fruit, nut and wine eaten during the seder. It is meant to remind
people of the mortar used by the Jews to build during the period of slavery. It
should have a coarse texture. The ingredient quantities are just a
rough estimate. Other fruits or nuts can be used ( bananas, raisins....)
- 4 medium apples, peeled and chopped
- 1/2 cup finely chopped almonds
- 1/4 cup sweet wine
- 1/4 cup dry wine
- 1 Tbs. cinnamon
- A little bit of sugar/honey
Shred the apples. Add all other ingredients. Let the mixture sit for 3-6 hours,
until the wine is absorbed by the other ingredients. You can also serve it on matzah. Goes very well with
horseradish.
