Does this happen in your country?

Hello again from the United States!

Recently, a humorous grammar error was brought to my attention and it made me want to ask the question, does this happen in your country too?

So here it is. In the United States, every year we recognize our mothers on a day in May and our fathers on a day in June. It is a sweet tradition that is commonly celebrated with flowers, spa packages, and brunches for the former and fishing poles, golf games, and goofy cards for the latter. Do you celebrate these days as well? If so, are they in May and June?

Now for the really (well maybe only if you are a nerd like me)interesting part; all over it is communicated as "Father's Day". This however is incorrect, it should be "Fathers' Day". It's not a day belonging to a father, it is a day belonging to fathers (plural). It was originally written correctly but(you guessed it) a typo in the Congressional bill set in motion a horrific (ok, maybe only unfortunate) chain of bad grammar events

So, back to the question. Any funny "official" typos where you live?

  1. Hi Myra,
we have been thinking a lot about your first question, but we must give up, we don’t know ( and our teacher doesn’t either). Sorry!
So second question. We do celebrate Mother’s day and Father’s day : the former on the second Sunday of May and the latter on St Joseph day, 19th March, it’s on this day because Saint Joseph is the father of Jesus. We usually give our mothers and fathers flowers, chocolates, perfume , an aftershave, a book…. the usual presents, little thoughts to say thank you to ours parents but also to those people who act as fathers and mothers to us.

  2. Glad to hear you take time to honor your mothers and fathers too! Also sounds like Italians may be a bit more grammar savvy than Americans! Heard you guys are almost on summer break. Hope it's amazing!!
